Shouldn't it be a parents' right that if someone molests their child they are allowed to kill them?

Why does this country insist on protecting criminals?

shoot them, and bill their family for the bullet.

If your country stopped protecting criminals, who would be left to run it ...?

Yeah, what CM and SFG said.

well, considering that 85% of sexually abused children are molested by a parent, i don't know how well that would work.

Here's what I say: pedophiles always will be pedophiles, regardless of treatment. Judges who allow pedophiles out on bail, or on probation, to re-offend -- and they will re-offend -- those judges should be charged with the same offenses as the pedophile. There is research, sound research that tells these people what will happen, and they continue to ignore the research and set the predators loose. Nothing will change until judges are somehow forced to behave responsibly.
As for 85% of molestation occurring by parents? I've worked in the field a long time, and have never seen such a statistic.

oops, you're right -- 85% is by family. something like half of that is parents/step-parents. the next 10% or so are other caregivers, teachers, doctors -- people known to the child/family. only a tiny percentage are strangers in the bushes waiting to molest your child.

also, i think susie and i read different research, as i was under the impression that while incarceration does nothing to stop previous offenders from abusing again, that many DO "recover" after treatment. not all, but many.

and as an aside: 90% of adults who sexually abuse children witnessed or were victims of domestic violence (not necessarily including sexual abuse) as children. maybe we should work to stop that cycle rather than pointing fingers.

I was molested. I witnessed domestic violence in many forms on a regular basis. I was beaten often.

I do not hurt children. Children are one of the most wonderful things in my life and I am always greatful to spend time with them and enjoy being around their happiness. People who use the excuse that it was done to them so they couldnt help it, just dont want to help it.

Anyone can stop the cycle if they choose to.

Yes, Tracy, you and I read VERY different research, including the 90% statistic that you site. Inexplicably, and frankly, MUCH to my surprise, the latest info I've seen has that number going lower and lower than anyone ever expected.

It does remain true, and to my knowledge, not disputed by any research, that most people who are molested do NOT grow up to molest. People like Jess.

Also, castration assumes that all molestors are male. I have to think that's not completely true.

I adore Susie's idea that judges who release pedophiles back into society should absolutely be held responsible for further occurrences of abuse. And not with fines or anything pansy-ass like that (no offense to pansies) - there should be hard time for complicity.

Of course, this ties in with another outrage of mine, and that's the amount of people we put in jail in this country for nonviolent, victimless crimes. So, let's put that child molestor back on the street to make room for this other guy who had some weed in his car.
No, I say - find another way to deal with people possessing drugs, then we can make room in prison for child molestors and the judges who think they should be free to roam. Somewhere, the priorities of law enforcement in the US have become completely nonsensical.

Our country is officially fucking insane.

Bucky -word!
Susie and Jess - word to you too.

My mother was molested by a neighbor who then shot her mother other in front of her. I swear this is true. My mother was only 5 years old. Now, she has never physically or sexually abused anyone. BUT that self-hate that she felt and internalized as a result of her abuse led to extreme emotional abuse in our home. We are fixing it now after 35 years of, well, a big ole mess or a family dynamic.

I am such a non-violent person myself BUT if I had to pull the switch that would kill a pedophile, I would do so without hesitation and would sleep as soundly as a baby that night.

I helped put away a baby-killer about 5 years ago when I was on the jury in a man-slaughter trial and when we finally convicted him it was the first time I slept through the night in that 3 week trial.

Oprah had a pedophile on her show a while back who was 100% honest (and very brave in my opinion to go on her show and to be as honest as he was) and said himself that he knows he will never be cured, he is greatful that his own kids have gone through therapy alone and with him and were able to find peace with him and themselves,(the only kids he molested were his own), he cannot be alone with any of his grandchildren or any child ever for the rest of his life. He even makes sure people know his past crimes to make damn sure he can't ever have that opportunity to harm a child again. He literally said that you can't rehabilitate "people like me".

So sad. For as many mental disorders as we can treat, or at lease manage, a cure or working treatment for this one is so elusive.

Why waste a bullet killing them when all you have to do is put them in the general population of your local, friendly prison and let the other inmates know that he's a convicted pedophile.

He will be dead by the end of the week.

Well the problem is so many people aren't into just killing the bad guy. It all sounds well and good, but really that won't happen for a loooong loooong time.

I believe that if convicted of any type of predatory crime against a child you should serve 25 yrs to life in prison. Let the petty drug dealers out and put in the people corrupting the youth of America.
